Deaths attributed to septicemia increased to a total of 28 deaths in 1989. This total was lower than the 1988 total of 30 deaths. The resident death rate for septicemia decreased from 23.8/100,000 in 1988 to 22.2/100,000 in 1989. Septicemia was ranked the 9th leading cause of death in 1988. Resident males had a death rate of 16.8/100,000 and females had a rate of 26.1/100,000 for septicemia. Residents who were 70 years of age and older accounted for 50% of all deaths due to septicemia.
