A total of 264 resident deaths were caused by malignant neoplasms occurring in 1989. This total shows a slight increase over the previous year which had decreased from the previous year.

The number of deaths for nonwhite residents seems to be decreasing. In 1988, the death rate for malignant neoplasms among nonwhite residents was 142.3/100,000, in 1989 this rate decreased significantly to 135.3/100,000.

The death rate among white residents is 250.2/100,000 while the death rate among the nonwhite population is 135.3/100,000. The death rate for white males has increased significantly from 249.2/100,000 in 1988 to 257.4/100,000 in 1989. The death rate for white females increased from 229.6/100,000 in 1988 to 243.9/100,000 in 1989.
