The total number of deaths caused by cerebrovascular disease climbed between 1985 through 1987. However, in 1988 the total number of deaths attributed to cerebrovascular diseases decreased slightly. In 1988 there was a total of 73 deaths and a death rate of 57.9/100,000. This total increased in 1989 to 92 deaths and a crude rate of 73.0/100,000. This increase appears to be due to the fact that more white residents died of cerebrovascular disease in 1989 than in 1988. Also the death rate for white residents increased sharply from 71.5/100,000 in 1988 to 91.9/100,000 in 1989.
