There were a total of 45 accidental deaths to New Haven Residents in 1989, showing a decrease from the 1988 total of 49. White residents had a higher incidence of accidental deaths than nonwhite residents in 1989. The accidental death rate was 34.5/100,000 for white residents and 35.8/100,000 for nonwhite residents.

Motor Vehicle Accidents (E810-E819)

A total of 24 deaths to New Haven Residents as a result of motor vehicle accidents were recorded in 1989. Deaths due to motor vehicle accidents increased from the 1988 total of 21 resident deaths. The death rate for motor vehicle accidents increased from 16.1/100,000 in 1988 to 19.0/100,000 in 1989.
