The State of Connecticut Office of Healthcare Access has provided New Haven Health with charges by Major Diagnostic Category for FY 1991-97. The twenty-five MDC's that appear below represent an extremely broad grouping of the ICD-9 diagnostic nosology and its thousands of diagnostic codes. The HCFA Public Use Files Web site has information about the MDC's and their relationships with Diagnostic Related Groups (DRG's) and ICD-9 codes.

The MDC data that are linked below are in Micorosoft Excel 4.0 format. This format is compatible with all later versions of Excel and is supported by most current spreadsheet programs. These files also can be viewed by utilities such as Quick View Plus or by using the freeware Microsoft Excel Viewer. Each spreadsheet is small (less than 20K) and can be opened easily or downloaded.

• All of the data from the linked tables are contained on a single MS Excel 4.0 spreadsheet which can be downloaded from here. The file has been compressed using PKZip. The file size is 215K compressed, 1.2 MB uncompressed.
  

The state-wide data depicted in the chart above and summarized in the table below are subject to these limitations:

1. The data come from the hospitals listed below. This list does not include every hospital in the State of Connecticut.
   
   
2. Data are not reported consistently by every hospital by every year.
   
   
3. A value of "4" is an estimated value; a value of "3" means less than 6, where the value cannot be estimated.
