Charles Duncan, M.D.
Pediatric Neurosurgery

Dr. Duncan is Professor of Neurosurgery and Pediatrics at Yale University and Chief of Pediatric Neurosurgery. He joined the Yale faculty in 1977 after medical school and neurosurgery residency at Duke. He was the first Research Scholar in Neurosurgery at Duke. He became board certified in neurosurgery in 1979 and in the same year was named Chief of Pediatric Neurosurgery. Dr. Duncan is attending physician at Yale-New Haven hospital and Consultant in Neurosurgery at the West Haven Medical Center. He is a member of the Credentials and Risk-Management Committees of the Y-NHH. Dr. Duncan is recognized nationally and internationally as a leader in Pediatric Neurosurgery.

Dr. Duncan directs the Pediatric Neurosurgery Program which provides clinical care, clinical and basic investigations, and education for nervous system disorders in the young. Yale has had dedicated pediatric neurosurgery for over 25 years. The clinical services of pediatric neurosurgery reach the breadth of neurosurgical care for infants, toddlers, school aged children, adolescents and young adults.

Dr. Duncan's research activities have included the development of cerebral blood flow measurement systems for immature brain by positron emission tomography, the prevention of intraventricular and germinal matrix hemorrhage in the premature infant by basic and multicenter clinical trials, basic investigations into the adaptive mechanisms of developing brain to injury, and the development of endoscopic surgery in the very young. Dr. Duncan is also the Director of Medical Studies in Neurosurgery for the Yale School of Medicine and the Residency Training Program.
