The recruitment and admission of students to the program is carried out in the context of the Biomedical and Biosciences Combined Program. Applications from students that express an interest for Microbiology in their application are examined by a Microbiology admissions committee composed of 4 faculty members from the Microbiology program and the Director of Graduate Studies (see below). Students selected from the pool of applicants based on their academic record, letters of recommendation and research experience are invited to visit Yale. Although strong background in Microbiology is viewed favorable, it is not considered an essential requirement for admission into the Program. Students are interviewed by the Faculty affiliated with the Microbiology program who provide feedback to the admissions committee. The admissions committee makes offers of admission to those students that are considered qualified based on the criteria listed above and the input from the Faculty. The number of students accepted every year is dependent upon the number of slots available.
