Med program nets $2M

The combined M.D./Ph.D. program at the Yale School of Medicine has received a pledge for a $2 million bequest from an anonymous donor, program director Dr. James Jamieson said Wednesday.

$2 million gift will support training of physician-scientists
Of all the professions, learning medicine requires the greatest time commitment. After four years of medical school, doctors undertake at least three years of internship and residency before beginning their specialty training. At least two additional years are required to become a surgeon; if the career goal is heart surgery or neurosurgery, add two more years.

| Two Yale MD/PhD students invited
to International Achievement Summit |
The 45th annual International Achievement Summit
will be held in Los Angeles, California, June 1-4,
2006. It is an all-expense-paid weekend attended
by 260 outstanding students from 50 countries and eminent
leaders from the arts, sciences, business, and public
service. The 260 students include Rhodes, Marshall,
Fulbright, Truman, Gates-Cambridge, and Goldwater Scholars;
students from the Air Force, Navy and Army service
academies; medical students from Harvard, Yale, Stanford,
and Johns Hopkins; political science students from
Paris, London, Moscow and the U.S.; and law and business
students from Vanderbilt, Chicago, Harvard, MIT, Princeton,
and Penn State.
