HISTORY OF NURSING AT YALE UNIVERSITY
            

MISSION

This library is dedicated with admiration and reverence to the faculty and students of Yale School of Nursing, who, with vision, wisdom and dedication, took nursing education to very high standards of professionalism.

The library is intended to make available to the public at large the historical collections of Yale School of Nursing, and to highlight the efforts made along the time by the faculty and students to keep the school and its educational goals alive.

   

SYSTEM COMPONENTS

Hardware:

Computer PC: 300 MHz processing speed, 64 MB of RAM, 10 GB hard drive, high density removable drive (zip), CD-ROM drive.

Scanner: flatbed scanner with transparent media adapter for slides and negatives.

Software: Adobe Photoshop 5.5, OmniPage Pro 10.

SCANNING STANDARDS

Three versions were made for each image:

  1. an archival-quality master image: uncompressed, stored in TIFF file format, at 600 dpi spatial resolution;
  2. an access derivative image: fitting within the viewing area, compressed for speed of access, stored in JPEG file format, at 72 dpi spatial resolution;
  3. a thumbnail derivative image: small image presented with the bibliographic record, stored in file JPEG format, at 72 dpi spatial resolution.
