Digital collection of historical materials from the Yale School of
Nursing
Goals of this project
- To make the history and contributions of the Yale University School of
Nursing, its faculty and graduates available to students, scholars, and
the public.
- To widen access to the YSN historical collection.
- Reduce handling of popular images by producing high quality digital
masters.

System
Components
- Computer PC: 300 MHz processor, 64 MB RAM, 10 GB hard drive,
high density removable drive (zip), CD-ROM drive.
- Scanner: flatbed scanner with transparent media adapter for slides and
negatives.
- Software: Adobe Photoshop 5.5, OmniPage Pro 10.
Scanning Standards
Three versions were made for each image:
- an archival-quality master image: uncompressed, stored in TIFF file
format at 600 dpi spatial resolution;
- an access derivative image: fitting within the viewing area,
compressed for speed of access, stored in JPEG file format,
at 72 dpi spatial resolution;
- a thumbnail derivative image: small image presented with the
bibliographic record,
stored in file JPEG format, at 72 dpi spatial resolution.

This finding aid contains a list of the images
digitized in this collection and the disk where these files are saved.
