Yale School of Nursing Course Reserves

The Cushing/Whitney Medical Library is piloting course reserve services for the Yale School of Nursing in the Spring 2001 semester. This service supports YSN faculty who wish to provide supplemental course materials either electronically through CourseInfo software or with copies of printed information. The procedures followed in this service are designed to comply with United States copyright laws and fair use exemptions as defined by Title 17 of the U.S. code.

Faculty members wishing to put materials on reserve should read the information on Understanding Copyright and Fair Use. The guidelines for putting material on reserve are designed to comply with copyright law, and faculty are expected to abide by these guidelines. Material not in compliance with the fair use provisions of copyright law cannot be put on reserve.

A faculty member wishing to use material that is not in compliance with fair use may do so if she either seeks permission from the copyright holder or arranges to pay royalties. This can be done through commercial photocopying services who will put this material into a Course Pack. The photocopying service is then responsible for either securing the necessary permissions or for paying royalties. Course Packs may not be put on reserve.
