Yale School of Nursing Electronic Course
Reserve Services
YSN faculty may elect to provide access to supplemental course
materials through CourseInfo. This may be done for material that is
already available electronically, or for material that is currently only
available in print.
Converting Print Materials to Electronic Reserves
The library will scan a copy of a journal article
or a copy
of a chapter of a book as long as no electronic version of the material
is already available. The scan will produce an electronic copy of
the article in PDF (portable document format). The library will then
email this file to you.
Ordering Scanning Service
- Determine if the material you wish to post on CourseInfo is already
available electronically. Please refer to the library's
list of electronic journals.
The Yale Libraries subscribe to many online journals and textbooks. If
the material you want your students to read
is available online aleady, you should simply link to it from CourseInfo.
For Ovid articles, a special type of link called Jumpstart
must be used. Full Jumpstart
documentation is available. Contact Katie
Bauer if you need help with this feature.
The library
will not scan material that is already
available electronically.
- Check Fair Use Guidelines to be
sure that your material complies with copyright law. More
information is available in
Understanding Copyright and Fair Use.
- Produce the best quality photocopy possible of the desired
article or book section.
The quality of the PDF file will depend on the quality of the photocopy.
- When you make the photocopy, include the original
copyright statement as it appears in the book or journal.
- Send this photocopy along with a completed Course Reserve
Request form
to the Reference Room.
- After the request is received, the library will fill your
order within 10
days. The library will not scan a document if it feels that its use is
not in compliance with
copyright law and fair use provisions.
- The library will email
the pdf
file to you as an attachment, and you must then load the material on your
CourseInfo site.
- You must remove the file from the CourseInfo site at the
end of the semester.
