Getting Started with Blackboard

Logging in to Blackboard

You can access Blackboard from the Medical Library’s homepage. It is located under Major Resources. The direct URL for Blackboard is: http://courseinfo.med.yale.edu/

 

YSM Students ONLY


Medical students are required to log in to Blackboard using their Student Codes. This ensures anonymity consistent with the Yale System. If you have a question regarding your Student Code, please contact Terri Tolson in the Office of Student Affairs. Medical students should log in as follows:

  • USER NAME: is your Student Code
  • PASSWORD: is your Student Code
    (be sure to change your password after logging in by following instructions below)

FOR PA Students and all others (including faculty and staff)


Please note that your:

  • USER NAME: is your NetID *
  • PASSWORD: is your NetID
    (be sure to change your password after logging in by selecting the Personal Information option from the Welcome page. Click on Change Password to select a more secure password.)

If you are experiencing difficulty logging in, please email Judy Spak at judy.spak@yale.edu. Please be sure to note the complete error message before contacting Judy Spak for help.

After you've logged in, your "Welcome" Tab page will appear. This is your customized entry page to Blackboard.

 

In the "My Courses" panel, you may find listings of your Blackboard courses. To enroll in the rest of your Blackboard sites, click on the Courses tab and navigate to classes available in your program of study.

For Medical Students, click on the link to Medicine, then Undergraduate Education, then Preclinical Years and lastly, First Year.

For Physician Associate Students, click on the link to Physician Associate and then 1st Year PA.


Course Navigation


Here is a description and example of navigation buttons you may see in your courses.. Navigation in each course varies depending on the content areas the instructor chooses to enable.

  • Announcements: New information about the course – room changes, chat room meetings
  • Course Information: General information – syllabus, goals and objectives, lecturer schedule
  • Staff Information: Instructor’s information – office hours, email address, phone number.
  • Course Documents: Course Content– lecture outlines, lessons, readings, presentations, etc.
  • Assignments: Links to assessments and surveys
  • Communication: Links to communication tools – email, discussion board, virtual classroom
  • External Links: Links to web pages – sites of interest that may contain content covered in the course

Blackboard has excellent online documentation. To view manuals, you may click on the links below. Instructors and support staff can also find an online manual that is accessible from the Control Panel of their course. Students can find an online manual under the Tools button in their courses. For your convenience, here are the manuals:
