To get to the medical school campus by car (which is about three blocks
south of the main campus), take exit 1 off I-91 or exit 47 off I-95
onto the "Route 34 Connector". If you get off the Connector at its
last exit (exit 3) you can stay to your immediate left and make the
first left turn directly into the "Air Rights" parking garage. The
Air Rights parking garage is located above York Street between North
and South Frontage Roads. Maps and directions may be found on the
Hospital Web site (see links below). Another
easy access garage is adjacent to the Yale Physicians Building at
800 Howard Avenue, between Congress Avenue and Davenport Avenue/York
Street. Directions may be found at the Faculty Practice Web Site
or at the Hospital Web site. In case you are using a mapping program
or web site, the official street address for the medical school is
333 Cedar Street while the official address for the hospital is 20
York Street.
New
Haven is easily reached by train, either via Amtrak from New York
or Boston, via Metro North service from New York, or by local Connecticut
Shoreline East Commuter Train Service within the state of Connecticut.
Trains leave approximately hourly to/from New York during the week
(much more frequently during commuter time, and every one-two hours
on weekends) and approximately every one-two hours to/from Boston.
Amtrak's new high speed rail service, Acela, between Washington
and Boston uniformily stops in New Haven. Travel on the Acela from
New Haven to Boston takes less than 2 hours, to New York about 1-1/2
hours, and to Washington about 4 hours . There are two train stations
in New Haven, the main stop for all trains is at Union Station and
there is a second stop a bit closer to the downtown area at State
Street which only select trains stop at. Although Union Station
is located relatively close to the medical campus, it is easy to
get lost if you do not know the way and so a taxi or Yale shuttle
ride is recommended.
There are three major alternatives for air service to/from New
Haven. Tweed-New Haven airport (HVN is the airport code) is located
5 minutes from downtown (directly off I-95 at exit 50 if going north
on I-95 or exit 51 if going south) and is serviced directly by U.S.
Airways and Pan Am Clipper (see Tweed website listed below for more details). Both airlines have frequent flights to their
respective hubs - this represents the most convenient approach to
New Haven. Bradley International in Hartford (BDL) is a major international
airport accommodating all major airlines (including the economy
airlines such as Southwest) and with direct flights to all major
cities. It is located about 40 miles north from New Haven and may
be reached either by car or by Connecticut Limousine's Shuttle service.
Bradley is also an extremely easy airport to use. Alternatively,
one can use any of the three New York City airports (LaGuardia,
JFK or Newark) and take the Connecticut Limo shuttle to New Haven
or the Prime Time Shuttle. It's a little over 2 hours on the shuttle
from LaGuardia or Kennedy; more from Newark. Amtrak also has direct
service by train to/from Newark Airport to New Haven.
