New
Haven is located on Long Island Sound about midway across the state
of Connecticut at the mouth of the Quinnipiac River and at the juncture
of interstates 95 and 91. In addition to being a college town, it
is also an active port and a local business center. It is situated
about 70 miles northeast of New York, 130 miles from Boston and 150
miles from skiing in Vermont (sorry, I'm writing this in the middle
of winter). It has the typical New England geography: Atlantic coastline
on the south side of the city and rolling hills on the north side.
As one goes further north in the state, the Litchfield Hills and the
Berkshires evolve into genuine mountains. The Medical Center is located
just a few short blocks from the main Yale campus so that it is routine
for students and faculty to walk from one campus to the other. Most
of the theater, music, art and sports venues outlined below are within
walking distance of the medical center.

- Town of Essex (since it was rated the #1 best small town in America
and gives a great flavor of what the New Haven suburbs/exurbs are like, we had to include it)
