Art Museums and Cinema

New Haven has a large number of art galleries as well as two major art museums, the Yale University Art Gallery and the Yale Center for British Art. The Beineke Rare Book Library houses an original Gutenberg Bible as well as many other famous works for bibliophiles. Lists of some of the art galleries may be found on the New Haven Arts Council site. In addition, there are several excellent art museums in the surrounding towns including the Griswold Museum in Old Lyme which houses a major collection of American impressionism and the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford. Film is also well-represented with a number of local small art theaters as well as the up and coming annual New Haven independent film festival.
