SPECIMEN REQUIREMENTS     

Collection Requirements:    Preferred container is 4.5-mL blue top tube; pediatric 2.7-mL blue top tube is also acceptable. Tube must be filled completely.

Unacceptable Conditions:    Partially filled tube or clotted sample

    Ratio >2.20 rules out APC resistance and factor V Leiden gene mutation.

 

Clinical Indication Criteria:    Unexplained thrombosis. The most frequent cause of APC resistance is factor V Leiden gene mutation.
