Clinical History

  • 35 year old man with past medical history of congenital glaucoma.

  • Left eye >>>> Right eye

  • Lost vision in left eye as young child

  • Left eye gradually became painful, red and aesthetically unpleasing as patient grew

  • 1994: Enucleation (2º to pain)

  • Hydroxyapatite orbital implant with prosthesis

  • Patient presented in 2001
    • several months of degeneration of surface over implant
    • swollen eyelids
    • copious discharge from eye
    • no pain
    • had used Polymyxin OD with no relief
    • other meds: Betoptic OS

  • No other significant PMH

  • Family history: father with prostate cancer
