What should I expect when I submit a recommendation?
- You will receive a "Thank you" notice from our system. If you do not see this in your email inbox, please check your junk mail folder as your email system may have filtered it out of your inbox.
- The applicant you are recommending will also receive a notice
- By email
- On their application
How long can my research proposal summary be?
As mentioned in the instructions, 200 words is a good-length.
As a rule of thumb, make sure that when you print your application, your research proposal summary ends on the second page.
How do I submit a recommendation?
For an illustrated (longer) version of these instructions, please download Submitting a Recommendation (pdf) attached below.
When you login as a recommender*, click on the "My forms" link.
On this page, you will see a list of all applicants who have invited you to write a sponsor's letter or a reference on their behalf.
Please click on the applicant's name to view the form you need to complete to submit the recommendation for your applicant. You may save your recommendation and come back later to complete it. To confirm (equivalent of a signature) your recommendation for final submission, first click the checkbox at the bottom of the page that says "Check to confirm the statement/reference is ready for final submission.". A red confirmation message will appear
at the top of the recommendation form when you now click the "Submit" button.
At the same time a new checkbox will appear underneath the old one that says "Yes, this statement is ready for final submission.". Click this checkbox and click the "Submit" button to send the recommendation to us!
How do I request recommendations from my sponsor and referees?
On your application page, click either the "sponsors" or "referees" tabs and fill out the form to request their recommendations.
You will be able to follow the status of your requests on the same page.
If you do not see the request forms on clicking these links, please refresh your account by clicking the "edit" tab and then clicking the "Refresh" button.

Why does pasting from Microsoft Word sometimes distort my formatting?
Microsoft Word allows for more formatting styles than the Internet formatting language, HTML. When you paste from Microsoft Word, our system attempts to render your text into HTML on a best effort basis. The best conversion results are achieved when you use very basic formatting in your Word documents.
Clicking on the Paste from Word button (
) will launch a window into which you can paste your Word content to remove any unwanted formatting.
Printing problems?
Do you have your text not "wrapping" to the next line when you print?
Only the first fifteeen or so words of each paragraph are visible and the rest are cut off?
Try this procedure which is guaranteed to work, otherwise let us know.
- To fix this problem for each text field, click the "disable rich text" link at the bottom of the text field.
- Delete the entire contents of the text field.
- Once you've done that, re-enable rich text and put in the text.
This operation removes the HTML tags, "<pre>" and "</pre>" which was forcing your browser to disregard text wrapping.
If all else fails,
