Spectrum: |

Tropical diseases including malaria, typhoid, dengue and TB; infectious diseases include meningitis, HIV and hepatitis. Inpatient medical ward with late stages and complications of diabetes, hypertension and alcohol abuse. |
| Clinical
Responsibilities: |

Inpatient- medical and pediatric wards. |
 |
Outpatient- private clinic for primary care/endocrinology and diabetes. |
 |
ER/Casualty - optional rotation with access to trauma and minor surgery. |
 |
Lectures- present at one city-wide conference, opportunity to present at weekly case conferences .Numerous chances to teach medical students and young physicians in training. |
| Personnel Needed from: Internal Medicine preferred, Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine possible |
| Length of Rotation: Minimum of six weeks, including travel from US |

Reimbursement Award amount: $3500 for residents, $4500 for career physicians |

Cost of housing covered- usually scholars stay at nearby local hotel. |

Language requirements - None. Vietnamese spoken predominantly but most physicians speak English and staff eager to translate. French no longer used in majority of academic settings. Practical Conversations in English for Internal Medicine, written by Vietnamese mentor and J&J scholar will be distributed to Vietnam-bound scholars |
