Our fellowship training program is designed to prepare postdoctoral fellows for careers in academic investigative rheumatology. We offer a traditional fellowship that includes one year of full-time clinical training and two or more years of clinical or laboratory research. We also offer a two year clinical fellowship for physicians who intend to pursue careers in clinical rheumatology. Research fellowships in rheumatology, immunology and inflammation are also available for individuals with PhD degrees. Research training for both MD and PhD fellows is supported in part by a training grant from the National Institutes of Health.

Our program has a rich history in training outstanding clinicians, many of whom are now members of the Yale faculty or other academic departments. Dr. Joe Craft, Chief of the Section, and Dr. Insoo Kang, Program Director, oversee the implementation of our training program. Drs. Linda Bockenstedt, Richard Bucala, Janine Evans, Erol Fikrig, Liana Fraenkel, Insoo Kang and Stephen Malawista participate in the clinical training program, along with 19 volunteer faculty members. Research training is mentored by Drs. Bockenstedt, Bucala, Craft, Fikrig, Fraenkel, Kang, Malawista, Yin, and Mark Mamula in the Section of Rheumatology.

The Section of Rheumatology is comprised of internationally recognized leaders in rheumatology and the related disciplines of inflammation, immunology and microbial pathogenesis. We are interested in recruiting postdoctoral candidates who wish to pursue careers in academic research.

Our program participates in the Rheumatology match, scheduled for June, 2005. Interested M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. candidates can apply using the universal application available through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
