In addition to the 18 months of Clinical PCCM medicine, fellows are required to complete 18 months of PCCM research training. After completing the first year of fellowship, fellows choose from a wide variety of research projects and mentors in the section of PCCM and Yale School of Medicine (See: Research, Faculty, Current Fellows). Fellows can opt to pursue advanced training in basic biology, biostatistics, clinical research, molecular biology through courses offered at the Yale School of Medicine. In addition, PCCM fellows may participate in advanced degree programs leading to an MPH through the (Yale School of Epidemiology and Public Health) or PhD (Yale Investigative Medicine Program). The Yale Robert Wood Johnson Program offers additional Training in Clinical Epidemiology. Fellows Trainees who wish to pursue additional laboratory or advanced clinical research have the option to pursue a fourth year to complete their research projects. Under the sponsorship of the Section's T32 NIH sponsored training grant, present day fellows are receiving advanced training in molecular biology, cell biology, statistics, study design and clinical research.
