WHAT ARE OUR AIMS?

We will conduct a cross-sectional investigation of 50 shops with 300 workers. Through this survey, we will determine the prevalence of occupational asthma in the autobody industry in the New Haven County, CT area. We would like to develop a simple method for the diagnosis of isocyanate asthma using a questionnaire and laboratory tests such as a breathing or blood tests. We would also like to characterize isocyanate exposure patterns in autobody shops to determine the relationships between exposures and the risk for developing isocyanate asthma. We hope to identify potential acquired and genetic host factors which may affect risk for occupational asthma.
