Special Notice

Postdoctoral training in nephrology and hypertension at Yale University School of Medicine is offered in a traditional clinical + research track that is three (or more) years in duration and includes one year of clinical training and two (or more) years of clinical or laboratory research. This fellowship is designed to prepare trainees for academic careers in nephrology and hypertension.

In addition, we offer a straight clinical fellowship that is two years in duration and includes 18 months of clinical training and 6 months of clinical research. Finally, a straight research fellowship is available for individuals who received clinical nephrology training at other institutions.

Nephrology fellows who have entered the traditional clinical + research fellowship can apply to the Investigative Medicine Graduate Program in patient-based or laboratory-based research. Trainees in this program can earn a Ph.D. degree after a minimum of four years of research training including graduate courses.

Postdoctoral fellows enter the nephrology fellowship program after completing a minimum of two years of residency training in internal medicine in the United States . Three or four applicants are accepted each year.

Candidates for fellowships beginning July 1, 2010 should apply using the universal application available through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) . Submitted applications will be made available to us on December 1, 2006 . Applicants selected to visit Yale for an interview will be contacted within the following 2 weeks.

To apply:

1) Please visit the ERAS website (http://www.aamc.org/students/eras/start.htm)

to access the on-line application.

2) Please indicate whether you are applying for the traditional clinical + research fellowship or the straight clinical fellowship. For applicants who want to be considered for the straight research fellowship, please contact Dr. Cantley directly (lloyd.cantley@yale.edu).

3) Include a copy of your curriculum vitae, a personal statement describing your career goals and previous research experience (if any). Please indicate if you have potential interest in the Investigative Medicine Graduate Program.

4) Three letters of recommendation will need to be included from faculty members who are familiar with your past performance.
