Deadline for Program Year 2010-2011 Applications:
Friday, January 22, 2010
Physicians-in-training who will have completed at least their internship year of residency training in accredited US programs in Internal Medicine, Primary Care, Family Medicine, Med/Peds, Ob/GYN, or Emergency Medicine by July 2010 are eligible to apply for the 2010-2011 program year. Those trained in Pediatrics and Preventive Medicine are eligible to apply for select sites only. Applicants from US academic medical centers and community-based practices who are board-certified in any specialty are welcome to apply as Career Physicians. Chief Residents and Fellows should apply as Career Physicians.
Please note: It is recommended that all Yale/Stanford/Johnson and Johnson Global Health Scholars be covered by malpractice insurance during their International Health Rotation. The Program does not provide this coverage. All participants are responsible for providing their own malpractice insurance and are encouraged to inquire as to the status of their current coverage when practicing medicine abroad.
Applications and supporting letters for participation must be received by January 22, 2010. All applicants will be notified by the end of February, 2010. The rotation will take place between July 1, 2010 and June 30, 2011. The award must be used during this time frame and may not be postponed except under highly unusual circumstances.
Both the Resident and Career Physician applications are available for download in Microsoft Word format to be completed and printed. In addition to the application, both Residents and Career Physicians are asked to submit their CVs as well as two letters of recommendations, one of which must be from his or her program director if the applicant is a resident or fellow. All letters of recommendation must be enclosed with the application and mailed.
Please mail all FOUR components of the application (form, CV, two letters of reference) in ONE packet to:
Ms. Patricia King
Program Assistant
Yale School of Medicine
333 Cedar Street
PO Box 208030
New Haven, CT 06520-8030
It is the applicant’s responsibility to collect all letters and enclose in application packet. Incomplete application packets will not be reviewed.
To confirm our receipt of your packet, please contact Patricia King by telephone, (203) 737-2078, or via email at patricia.king@yale.edu
Please note the minimum number of weeks required for each site’s rotation. The minimum includes travel time. Please plan on scheduling vacation on the weekends or at the end of your rotation.
The following Microsoft Word files include all instructions and can be downloaded to your computer, completed, printed and mailed.
Selection is based upon site availability, dates which residents and senior physicians are available for rotations, and desired experiences. Previous international health experience is not a criterion for participation at the resident or the Career Physician level.
