Dr. Petersen is a clinical investigator who specializes in research on the mechanisms of liver and muscle metabolism in humans especially in aging, obesity, type 2 diabetes, exercise, and liver disease and also involves research on the mechanisms of insulin resistance. Dr. Petersen’s main focus is the use of magnetic resonance spectroscopy, imaging, and stable isotope techniques in conjunction with the insulin clamp technique. Dr. Petersen teaches at Yale University and is a member of the American Physiological Society, American Federation for Clinical Research, the American Diabetes Association and Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine.
