Manisha Juthani-Mehta, M.D.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Juthani is interested in hospital acquired infections, infection control, and the emergence of resistant organisms in the nursing home setting. She provides clinical care on the HIV inpatient medicine service and on the Infectious Diseases consultation service at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Research Interests

Dr. Juthani is primarily interested in infectious diseases in the aging population. Specifically, she is investigating diagnostic criteria for urinary tract infections in nursing home residents. Because of the high prevalence of asymptomatic bacteriuria in nursing home residents which does not require treatment and because nursing home residents present with non-specific clinical symptoms, clinical criteria for UTI diagnosis in nursing home residents is problematic. Currently, Dr. Juthani is conducting an observational cohort study at New Haven area nursing homes in conjunction with the Yale Program on Aging entitled "Defining UTI in Nursing Home Residents." Dr. Juthani's research is supported by the NIH, the Claude D. Pepper Center at Yale, Atlantic Philanthropies, IDSA/NFID, John A. Hartford Foundation, and the Association of Specialty Professors.
