Silvio E. Inzucchi, M.D.

Dr. Inzucchi is Professor of Medicine at Yale University and attending physician at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He serves as the Clinical Director of the Section of Endocrinology, the Director of the Yale Diabetes Center, and Program Director of the Endocrinology & Metabolism Fellowship. He is also consultant in endocrinology to the West Haven Veterans’ Administration Medical Center and the Yale Health Plan. Dr. Inzucchi is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology/Metabolism, and is an active member of the American Diabetes Association and the Endocrine Society.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Inzucchi has an active clinical practice. He has published and lectured extensively on many topics in endocrinology. Dr. Inzucchi’s areas of expertise include the broad range of endocrine conditions: diabetes; lipid disorders; and thyroid, pituitary and adrenal diseases. His special interests are diabetes, insulin resistance, pituitary tumors, acromegaly, Cushing syndrome, growth hormone replacement therapy in adults, and endocrine disorders during pregnancy.

Office hours are held every Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning on Dana 3 (789 Howard Avenue) and on Thursday mornings at the Yale Diabetes Center on Dana 2. Dr. Inzucchi works in conjunction with Geri Spollett MSN, an adult nurse practitioner and certified diabetes educator, and Gael Ulisse APRN and Helen Psarakis APRN of Yale-New Haven Hospital’s Inpatient Diabetes Management Team.

Research Interests

Dr. Inzucchi’s research primarily involves clinical investigations into (1) the cardiovascular complications of diabetes, (2) insulin resistance and atherosclerosis, and (3) the inpatient management of hyperglycemia.
