Research Activities

Dr. Cutter’s scholarly work focuses on psychotherapy treatment outcome associated with substance abuse and chronic pain populations. He examines the transfer of psychosocial treatments associated with the transfer of buprenorphine, from specialized settings to office-based, primary care and HIV specialty settings.

Teaching Activities

Dr. Cutter is a clinician researcher whose focus is on the evidence-based therapeutic interventions associated with substance use and abuse. He serves as a research supervisor and course instructor for the Departments of Internal Medicine and Psychiatry, including the section of General Medicine (Primary Care), and Division of Substance Abuse. He precepts residents in the Yale School of Medicine, Division of Substance Abuse Addiction Fellowship Program on the application of cognitive-behavioral therapeutic approaches to chronic pain and opiate dependence. Dr. Cutter currently serves as the component director of the Medical Research Unit (MRU) at the APT Foundation.

Service

Dr. Cutter currently serves as president of the early career psychologist section (Section 10) within the American Psychological Association, Society of Clinical Psychology (Division 12). He serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Personality and Individual Differences. Dr. Cutter also serves on the board of directors for Today College Tours, a non-profit organization dedicated to develop awareness of mental health issues within college campus communities.
