As a clinician-educator, my focus is primarily on the care of patients with renal disease and on the education of the fellows and housestaff. I function as the associate program director for the nephrology fellowship program and as the Associate Firm Chief of the Peters/Fitkin medical firm. In these roles I participate a great deal in the educational mission of the department of medicine.

In my clinical practice, I focus on the overlap of pregnancy and high blood pressure and/or concurrent kidney disease. I have a general nephrology clinic where these patients are seen along with patients with kidney disease for any other reason. I enjoy the preventive and longitudinal care of patients with chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease on hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis.

I work closely with the nephrology fellows and other physicians from all services on the care of those patients in the hospital and intensive care units with end stage renal disease, CKD or acute kidney injury.

My research interests have been largely focused in the hemodialysis patient population and have included the preservation of vascular access, prevention of infection and hemodynamic changes in patients during dialysis.
