Inpatient Internal Medicine Clerkship

Medicine II

Medicine I and Medicine II are a continuous eight week rotation comprised of two, 4 week blocks. Students must complete Medicine I before Medicine II, and the clerkship cannot be divided: it must be completed within a continuous eight week segment. Conferences and teaching rounds are held daily.

The clerkship coordinator will email preference forms for choosing affiliate sites and specific services approximately two months in advance of the start date of the rotation. Either Medicine I or Medicine II must be completed at Y-NHH or the VAMC; the other rotation can be completed at an affiliate of Y-NHH (Waterbury Hospital). The rotation cannot be completed at any other location.

The entire medicine clerkship (including the 8 weeks of inpatient medicine and 4 weeks of ambulatory medicine) MUST be completed by the end of the third year.

The inpatient rotation is not a prerequisite for completion of the ambulatory medicine rotation.

On Medicine II, students will receive increasingly more responsibility for patient care.

  • Guidelines

It is also the policy of the Department that a general goal of the SECOND rotation should be to allow the clinical clerk to develop a real sense of being a member of the patient-care team on our medical wards
