  Notes: Masses in the cardiac chambers are most commonly caused by clot or myxoma. Left atrial myxoma can dramatically fill much of the chamber, as in "Example 1". In the atria, myxoma should be suspected if the mass is attached to the inter-atrial septum and if there is no stasis caused by obstruction to flow such as mitral stenosis. In the case shown in "Example 2", the unusual right atrial mass grew rapidly and was presumed to be metatstic in a patient with esophageal cancer. Left ventricular apical clots usual result from localized stasis post-infarct.
