Notes: Cardiomyopathy is a disorder which demonstrates poor contractility of all segments of the myocardium. The disease can be caused by viral, toxic, post-partum, congenital or extensive multi-vessel coronary artery disease. The left ventricular ejection fraction in cardiomyopathies will often be less than 25%, as compared to the normal, while greater than 55% is the rule for normality. One of the most visible features is the relatively weak excursion of the diastolic opening of the mitral leaflets.
