Ivano Dal Prete

Assistant Professor of History of Science and Medicine

Ivano Dal Prete received his Ph.D. in History of the European Society from the University of Verona, Italy. His research focuses on the history of astronomy and of scientific culture in early modern Italy and France. His first book, Scienza e Società nel Settecento Veneto (“Science and Society in 18th-century Veneto”, Milan, 2008), explores the multifaceted features of natural philosophy in eighteenth-century Veneto and its role in local political and cultural debates. He has published several articles on scientific correspondence networks in early modern Europe, and on the history of observational astronomy and its interplays with culture, politics and religion.

In the Fall semester he offers an undergraduate seminar on the cultural and social history of astronomy in Western civilisation, from antiquity to modern times.
