Clinic Cytogenetics Fellowship The Department of Genetics offers training leading to board eligibility in the American Board of Medical Genetics specialty, Clinical Cytogenetics. While research activities constitute an important part of this training, the program goal is to prepare qualified candidates for the directorship of a clinical laboratory. The general requirements for the cytogenetic fellows are: to understand the chromosome’s structure and function; to recognize the clinical impacts of chromosomal abnormalities and genomic disorders; to perform microscopic G-band/FISH analysis for detecting different types of chromosomal abnormalities and microarray analysis for detecting genomic disorders; and to become familiar with ISCN nomenclature, quality control procedures and government regulations in Clinical Cytogenetics. |
