Take a look at our conference presentations and poster below from the 2008 Preparedness Summit in Atlanta, GA.

Adaptation, Implementation, and Evaluation of Tabletop Exercises

Tabletop exercises have been utilized as tools to advance local and state preparedness efforts. In order to provide session participants with skills for offering the most effective exercises, the session reviewed the processes of adapting, implementing, and evaluating tabletop exercises related to public health preparedness. Specifically, in this session, we used the experiences of staff at the YCPHP and our local partners, in adapting, implementing and evaluating a tabletop exercise pertaining to vulnerable populations, which is an area that may require additional attention from local and state officials. By the end of this workshop, participants received hands-on experience in adapting, implementing, and evaluating tabletop exercises based on the standards outlined in the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program.

Facilitators Manual on Biosafety, Biosecurity, and Biohazard Evaluation: The Orientation

In collaborations with the Yale University Office of Environmental Health and Safety, we developed a Facilitators Manual on Biosafety, Biosecurity and Biohazard Evaluation. The purpose of the Manual is to use experience of Yale biosafety officers in offering the course with the Yale School of Public Health to help experts in the field offer similar graduate-level courses or shorter continuing education workshops.

Preparing for and Intervening with Psychological Effects of Disaster and Terrorism: The Public Health Response

The Yale Center for Public Health Preparedness presented a hands-on training for all public health professionals interested in mental health and psychosocial issues related to children and families who were exposed to different disasters and emergencies. This interactive session incorporated lecture, small group work and questions and answers in order to help participants retain new knowledge about disasters and their effects on psychosocial well being of children and families, learn about the roles of public health professionals in mediating the trauma responses, and build participants capacity to provide basic psychological first aid.
