Disaster Field Manual Training for
Local Environmental Health Professionals

Field manual cover image Connecticut is one of five states in the nation to develop a Disaster Field Manual for local environmental health response. The Disaster Field Manual is the product of a collaborative initiative among CT state agencies, local health departments, and Yale CPHP.

2009 Disaster Field Manual Training for Local Environmental Health Professionals

On May 6th, 2009 a Disaster Field Manual training was held that focused on the environmental health role in mass sheltering operations and on a variety of disaster topics, including: vector borne disease and community interventions; debris removal; workplace and residential chemical hazards following disasters; worker safety and disaster recovery; and public water supplies and disasters: state and local roles.

The training agenda featured:

  • Special guest speakers Capt. Mark D. Miller, R.S., M.P.H., Senior CDC Environmental Health Officer;
  • A visit from Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicle and;
  • Presentations from Connecticut state agency leads from DPH and DEP and local environmental health professionals on using manual that included examples of real emergencies that have happened in Connecticut.
