Paul D. Cleary, Ph.D., Dean of Public Health, C-E.A. Winslow Professor and Chair of Epidemiology and Public Health at the Yale School of Public Health, has been elected to the Connecticut Academy for Science and Engineering.

The Connecticut Academy for Science and Engineering was established in 1976 by Special Act of the Connecticut General Assembly to identify and study issues and technological advances that are or should be a concern to the citizens of Connecticut. It provides unbiased, expert advice on science and technology-related issues to the state government and other Connecticut institutions. It is limited to a 250 person membership, comprised of distinguished scientists and engineers of the state’s academic, industrial, and institutional communities.

Cleary’s recent research includes a study of how organizational characteristics affect the costs and quality of care for persons with AIDS, a national evaluation of a continuous quality improvement initiative in clinics providing care to HIV infected individuals, developing web based decision tools to improve cancer care decision making, and a study of the long term impact of patient-centered hospital care. He also is Principal Investigator of one of the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) grants funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to develop surveys for collecting information from consumers regarding their health plans and services.

Cleary will be inducted at the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering’s 32nd Annual Meeting and Dinner on May 22.
