Health Systems Management Course – Liberia
As part of its certificate program, the Mother Patern College of Health Sciences/Stella Maris Polytechnic located in Monrovia, Liberia is offering a course entitled Healthcare Systems Management. The course focuses on providing students with practical skills and tools needed to effectively manage health systems. The course is a partnership with Mother Patern College, Yale University School of Public Health, and the Clinton Foundation HIV/AIDS Initiative.
The goal of the course is to strengthen management capacity in support of the implementation of the National Health Plan. Implicit in this plan, increased coordination and collaboration with the network of health service providers, is necessary. Managers must be well equipped to deal with a number of challenges, including the decentralization of management and planning to the counties, implementation of the Basic Package of Health Services, and the anticipated shift in partner and donor support. Meeting these challenges requires a shift from crisis management to strategic thinking and systems development, skills that will be developed through participation in this course.
In additional to creating an understanding of the National Health Plan and the leadership and management skills required to bring this vision into practice, participants will actively learn and apply skills in the areas of strategic planning and implementation, human resources development, financial management, and leadership. The collaborative nature of this course will facilitate the development of a community of learners. Members of these teams will well-equipped to work together to effectively implement the National Health Plan.
