Brandon Brei Award

This award will be given periodically at the time of the Microbiology Program Retreat to the graduate student who best exemplifies the outstanding achievements and character of Brandon Brei. A letter of nomination, describing the achievements of the student, in addition to the student’s C.V. ,will be submitted by the student’s thesis advisor no later than August 1 of the year the award is to be given. The winner will be chosen by a committee that will be chaired by Brandon Brei’s thesis advisor, Durland Fish, and will consist of the DGS, and member(s) of the Microbiology Program who are appointed by the Executive Board. Thesis advisors are strongly encouraged to nominate students who have made an outstanding contribution to the field of Microbiology. The winner of the Brandon Brei Award will make a presentation at the Annual Microbiology Retreat.


A Memorial Mass for Brandon Brei was held on Saturday, April 5th at 12:00 pm at St. Thomas More Chapel, located at 268 Park Street, New Haven. A reception immediately followed the service in their Chapel Hall.

It is the intention of this fund to provide future graduate students with opportunities for experiencing the kind of field research that Brandon loved so much.
