Joint Degree Programs

The M.P.H. program offers joint degrees with other Yale professional schools.   Joint degree candidates must apply separately to each program and are encouraged to apply simultaneously. Be advised that application procedures and deadlines may differ greatly between programs.  It is in the candidate's best interest to complete the application process early.  Yale schools do not share documentation or application information. All admission decisions are independent. Joint degree students must complete 15 course units toward the M.P.H. degree.

Joint degrees are offered with:

  • Divinity School - M.Div.-M.P.H.
  • School of Forestry and Environmental Studies - M.F.-M.P.H., M.F.S.-M.P.H.,
    M.E.S.-M.P.H.
  • International Development Economics - M.A.-M.P.H.
  • The MacMillan Center - M.A.-M.P.H.
  • Law School - J.D.-M.P.H.
  • School of Management - M.B.A.-M.P.H.
  • School of Nursing - M.S.N.-M.P.H.

Medicine – M.D.-M.P.H.
Candidates for the M.D.-M.P.H. program must be currently enrolled students in the Yale School of Medicine. Non-Yale medical students may only apply to the Advanced Professional M.P.H. Program. They may not apply to the M.D.-M.P.H. Joint Degree Program.

Yale medical students complete their M.P.H. coursework in a generalist track during their fourth year in this five-year program. There is no divisional affiliation.

The Joint Degree Program requires six core courses, six elective courses, and a public health related thesis, which also meets the thesis requirement for the M.D. degree. The thesis work is usually conducted during the fifth year of the program.

Because of the pressures of the two curricula and the thesis requirement, Yale medical students should apply for the Joint Degree Program as early as possible

Yale College (B.A.-B.S./M.P.H.)

The Select Program in Public Health offers Yale College students interested in the field of public health the opportunity to earn a Bachelor’s degree from Yale College and an M.P.H. degree from the Yale School of Public Health in a five-year joint program.  Candidates for the five year B.A.-B.S./M.P.H. program follow a separate application process.
