For some years, 2 main topics have comprised my major clinical research in
pediatric radiology. Innovation and improvement in infant hip sonography
continues; most recently, the demonstration of infant femoral head
vascularity by power and pulsed Doppler study has led to investigation into
the feasibility, utility, and standards of measurement which are needed
prior to using this examination clinically. The other subject is the
refinement of diagnostic sonographic criteria in children with
hydronephrosis to separate those who have obstructive uropathy from those
who do not, so unnecessary additional testing, cost and morbidity can be
reduced with improved diagnostic accuracy.
