Fellowships
Neuroradiology
The Neuroradiology Section offers one year and two-year fellowships at Yale-New Haven Hospital (a Level I Trauma Center), Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital, and the West Haven VA Hospital. Fellows are exposed to a rich clinical experience derived from these facilities with a combined total of 1150 beds in a tertiary referral center as well as from outpatient specialty clinics run by internationally famous physician scientists.
There are 8 Fellows in Neuroradiology, 8 Attendings, Residents and Medical Students. Fellows rotate through MR, CT, Special Procedures, including biopsies and spine procedures, Diagnostic Angiography and Interventional Neuroradiology.
Clinical Services
Our clinical MRI service currently includes four state-of-the-art 1.5 Tesla and one 3.0 T scanners. Fellows supervise and/or participate in the performance and interpretation of all neuro MR exams.
The CT service utilizes one GE 16 slice scanner, one GE CT/I, and two GE Lightspeed (multi-detector) CT scanners (all with helical capability, including CT fluoroscopy). A GE PET/CT is also available. The angiography service performs approximately 400 diagnostic angiography and neurointerventional procedures a year. A biplane Philips unit is used for these procedures.
Research
In addition to the clinical services, there is an array of whole body and animal research magnets in a dedicated research MR facility in the Yale University School of Medicine. These include 1.5T , 3T and 4T magnets for human and animal research. There are active programs in MR spectroscopy, image processing, functional MR, and epilepsy. In addition, a state-of-the-art research PET facility has recently become operational.
Yale University School of Medicine ranks #8 and the Yale Department of Radiology ranks #11 in NIH funding nationally. In 2002, the department was the recipient of the first grant awarded by the new National Institute of Biomolecular Imaging and Bioengineering.
Conferences
There is a daily neuroradiology case conference at Noon and on Wednesdays there is a didactic neuroradiology talk with lunch provided. These didactic talks are presented by both Yale Neuroradiology faculty as well as invited guest speakers. Weekly clinical conferences also occur for Neurosurgery, Neurology and ENT. Prominent guest speakers present Diagnostic Radiology Grand Rounds every other week from September to May.
On-Call
On-call requirements include coverage of CT, MRI and Angio with back up provided by attending neuroradiologists.
Environment
Yale University School of Medicine and Yale-New Haven Hospital are just a few blocks from the main Yale University Campus. Fellows have access to all Yale University facilities. In addition to theater, music, dining and other downtown activities, we are also located by beautiful Long Island Sound that provides beaches, boating, water sports etc. The area is also conducive to bicycling, hiking and other outdoor activities.
Living accommodations are affordable and readily available in New Haven and surrounding areas.
