National Academies at Yale
The School Development Program's Academies are designed to develop local leadership teams that provide the skills and energy for change needed to implement the Comer Process. Whether implementation is to take place at the school level or at the district level, participants return prepared to introduce the program to school and parent groups and to provide ongoing leadership. New information is constantly infused into these events, and leadership teams are encouraged to send new members and to return for periodic updates and renewal.

101 Leadership Academy at Yale

Designed to provide knowledge of the nine essential elements of the School Development Program and an understanding of the Six Developmental Pathways as the foundation of the Comer Process. Participants are prepared to apply change strategies. Participants are also expected to return to their school districts with enough information to enable them to present the program to other school and parent groups and begin the SDP in new schools

It is advisable to send a team from the district. Some districts have sent parents, teachers, central office administrators, board members, and principals or a combination of these.

The content of this training includes curriculum and instruction, child development, and action research. This training is especially important for those who are going to be facilitators, either at the central office or at the school level. It builds upon the skills and information gained in 101. Prerequisite attendance at 101. Leadership 102 focuses on the role of a Comer facilitator, as well as on the Comer child-centered planning process.

Understanding and Managing Student Behavior Academy

This Institute is designed to help administrators, teachers, and parents create a system that facilitates their understanding and management of student behaviors that can be challenging at school and at home. Specific attention will be given to intervention strategies, organizing classrooms for optimal performance, and using a school wide approach for reducing behavioral challenges. Involving parents in this solution created for schools is a critical component of our developmental approach.

Administrators' Leadership Institute at Yale

The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) legislation requirements serve as the primary measure of accountability for many school districts. School and office administrators need opportunities to learn more about effective strategies for meeting the demands of NCLB. The Yale School Development Program (SDP) has created a special summer institute to ensure that participants broaden and strengthen their instructional leadership and management skills. Persons who attend this instructional leadership institute will engage in hands-on and problem-based learning activities related to monitoring instruction in the areas of literacy, math, assessment, and general school management.
