Collaborative Physiology - by Sara Haug

For better or for worse, I have a talent for mathematics and a love of physiology. Entering graduate school as a chemical engineer, I hoped to work in a lab focused on biology but did not know if it would be feasible. Once the idea was proposed, faculty members from both the engineering and physiology departments were encouraging and worked hard to facilitate a collaboration between the two programs. My mentor and committee members have offered amazing support while still allowing me the flexibility to discover my own research path. Studying the regulation of blood flow to skeletal muscle tissue has allowed me to find an appropriate balance between the two disciplines for my thesis work.
