Partial Hospital Program

The Partial Hospital Program of the Yale Child Study Center School provides special education programming for children who are transitioning from the Children’s Psychiatric Inpatient Unit of Yale-New Haven Hospital. The program is designed to meet the short-term needs of students with complex psychiatric, developmental and educational disorders. The program also accepts outside referrals from community clinicians, local school districts and parents.

The Partial Hospital Program provides educational and therapeutic services for children who are living at home. The program operates Monday through Friday from 8:30-4:00 with the exception of major holidays. Transportation to and from the program is provided by parents or local school districts. The average treatment and enrollment period for the Partial Hospital Program is thirty days.

The Partial Hospital Program offers five hours of academic and therapeutic programming in a small, highly structured classroom setting. Academic programming is carefully planned to meet the unique needs of each learner. Clinical services are provided in the afternoon and include individual therapy, group counseling, family therapy, recreational therapy and social skills.

Transition and aftercare planning back to less restrictive educational and community settings commences upon admission. Educational and treatment teams work collaboratively with the students, families, local school districts, community treatment programs and managed care companies to ensure a successful discharge from the program.

Funding

Funding for the Partial Hospital Program is jointly borne by the local school districts and insurance companies. Parents may also assume financial responsibility for the educational and/or therapeutic costs.
