Predoctoral Internship and Postdoctoral Fellowship In Psychology

Trainees and Application Procedure

Applicants are recruited from approved programs and programs meeting APA accreditation standards across the country. While our program is designed for trainees from clinical programs, candidates from other approved programs may apply if their prior experience, training, and future career goals are consonant with our program. Re-specialization candidates are also welcome to apply for admission. All candidates must have a plan to complete the doctoral degree before the beginning of their second year of fellowship. We anticipate accepting four fellows for the 2009-2010 training year.

Applicants must have completed all coursework toward the doctorate and all practicum experiences required prior to internship. Most interns accepted into this program have completed at least 1500 hours of supervised practica. A letter from the Director of Clinical Training stating the eligibility for internship is required of all applicants.

The Yale Child Study Center has a solid record of recruiting and training individuals from under-represented populations such as racial and ethnic minorities and the handicapped. We aspire to training a diverse population of scientists and practitioners. The faculty of the Child Study Center includes individuals from many cultural and racial backgrounds. Admission to the Psychology Internship Training Program at the Yale Child Study Center is open to all qualified individuals and the Center is committed to a policy of equal opportunity for all applicants for employment. Yale University is committed to basing judgments concerning the admission, education, and employment of individuals upon their qualifications and abilities, and affirmatively seeks to attract to its faculty, staff, and student body qualified persons of diverse backgrounds. In accordance with this policy and as delineated by federal and Connecticut law, Yale does not discriminate in admissions, educational programs, or employment against any individual on the basis of that individual's sex, race, color, religion, age, disability, status as a special disabled veteran or veteran of the Vietnam era or other covered veteran, sexual orientation, or national or ethnic origin.

To apply for admission, please submit the following materials in triplicate: The Fellowship Application developed by APPIC, a current curriculum vitae, work samples including at least one psychological testing report and one treatment summary (with the understanding that HIPPA requirements will be complied with), a graduate school transcript, and three letters of recommendation, at least two of which should be from supervisors familiar with your clinical work. Letters of recommendation must be included with your application and in triplicate. Please place recommendation letters in sealed envelopes signed after sealing by the recommendation writer.

In addition, each applicant is asked to complete and submit a Specialized Training Supplemental Form. This form will help us to identify the specific training area or areas in which you are interested. Completed applications should include a twenty-five dollar ($25.00) application fee. This fee is non-refundable and helps to defray the administrative costs of the admissions process. Please make checks payable to the Yale Child Study Center.

Applications are due November 1, 2008. To insure applications are received on time we recommend mailing at least ten days before the due date. Early applications are encouraged and may be reviewed upon receipt. All applications are screened by mid-December.

Top candidates are invited to the Child Study Center for interviews in January. Interviews are a very important part of the application process. Applicants will receive a general program overview, have lunch with current fellows, and meet individually with one fellow and several members of the faculty, including faculty currently working in the specialized training area or areas ranked by the applicant on the Specialized Training Supplemental Form. Applicants who are not granted interviews after review of written materials are notified in writing.

As a member of APPIC we adhere to all APPIC regulations concerning the selection of interns. This internship site agrees to abide by the APPIC policy that no person at this training facility will solicit, accept, or use any ranking-related information from any intern applicant. The starting date for the fellowship is July 1, 2009. Applicants can obtain instructions and download the Application Agreement Form required for the Match from the Matching Program web site.
