Make and decorate a paper airplane
Airplane
#1 You will need construction paper and markers. Fold a
sheet of construction paper in half lengthwise. Open it
back up and fold the bottom corners up to the center crease.
Fold each diagonal end in to the center crease. Refold the
paper in half again at the center crease. Fold the top right
end back to the folded edge. Flip the paper airplane over,
and fold the top left end back to the folded edge. Decorate
your plane using markers.
Airplane #2 You will
need a clean foam meat tray, craft knife, permanent markers,
craft glue, masking tape, and pencil. Draw the shape of
a planes body, wings, and tail on the foam meat tray. With
an adult’s help, cut out the pieces with a craft knife
and decorate the pieces with permanent marker. Cut 2 slots
in the body of the plane for the wings and the tail. Insert
the wings, and tail. Add a small amount of glue to hold
them in place. Now you are ready to fly your plane. If you
need to add weight to the nose or tail, use some masking
type to add the weight or paper clips.
Have the child add
objects to the place such as a paper clip. Will it fly?
Will it fly a longer distance?

Be
an airplane
A great activity to
do either inside or outside is to have a child extend his
arms outward and walk around pretending to be a plane flying
in the clouds or over a mountain.
Observe
planes
Young children love
to watch planes in the sky. Pack a picnic lunch, a book,
and head outside in the yard or at a park to watch airplanes
fly overhead.
