Opposites and Directions

Find the opportunity to show young children opposites: hot/cold, wet/dry, in/out, happy/sad, under/over, behind/above, and left/right. Talk about opposites, “My hair is dry while yours is wet, they are opposite of each other.”

Find the opportunity to show young children directions. Point out to a child where familiar items are located: “The book is on the table.”, “The dog is on his bed.” On car or bus rides point out road signs or landmarks.

Public Libraries offer great books on opposites and directions. Your FREE library card from your local branch will let you take books from any library in Connecticut. Many have great children’s sections with toys, computers, storytimes, and special events. They lend a variety of FREE and reduced-price passes to area museums, check your local branch for details.
