Research Interests
Dr. Poncin is medical director of the Child Psychiatric Consultation Service to the Pediatric
Emergency Department and Child Psychiatry on Pediatrics for Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital. He
also serves as medical director for the In-Home Child & Adolescent Reintegration Service (IICARS),
Intensive In-Home Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Service (IICAPS), and Intensive Family Preservation
(IFP) all part of the Child Study Center's In-Home Clinical Service (IHCS). Recently, in
collaboration with the Diabetes Clinic at Yale, the IHCS initiated a pilot program of in-home mental
health treatment for pediatric patients non-adherent with their diabetes care and at risk for
significant morbidity or mortality. Dr. Poncin is also a consultation-liaison attending on the
pediatric medical floors and has served as an attending on the Children's Psychiatric Inpatient
Service. Other activities include school-based consultations for the New Haven Board of Education
and psychopharmacological research. Dr. Poncin views the developmental course of children and adults
as shaped by the interactions over time of biological vulnerability, individual psychology, family
function, and environment. His interests are in the care of individuals and their families who
present with complex psychosocial distress across multiple domains.
